Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - Stone Crabs third baseman Kevin Padlo drove in five runs on a pair of home runs in Monday's 7-5 Charlotte win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Monday marked Padlo's first multi-home run performance of his career.
With one out in a scoreless game in the second inning, Stone Crabs (10-14) catcher David Rodriguez reached on an infield single. Two batters later, Angel Moreno tripled to the left field corner to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead.
Leading by that margin in the third, Brandon Lowe and Brett Sullivan singled ahead of Padlo, who clubbed a three-run home run to left center to extend the Stone Crabs' lead to 4-0.
After Lakeland (14-11) shaved a run off the lead in the bottom of the third, Stone Crabs shortstop Jake Cronenworth doubled to center with two outs in the fourth. After a walk, Sullivan singled to center to plate Cronenworth and give Charlotte a 5-1 lead.
With the score 5-3 in the top of the ninth, Sullivan reached on an error with two outs before Padlo connected on his second homer of the night.
Lakeland rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning before Bryan Bonnell came in to get the final two outs and seal his third save of the season.
Cronenworth picked up two doubles in the game, extending his hitting streak to 25 games. The streak is the longest in Stone Crabs history and the third longest in Rays' Minor League history. The record, set by Aubrey Huff in 1999, is 28 games.
Stone Crabs starter Eduar Lopez (2-2) worked seven innings to earn the win, surrendering three runs on eight hits while fanning two.
The Stone Crabs will look to clinch a split of the four-game series Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Genesis Cabrera (1-3, 5.32) gets the start for Charlotte, against RHP Beau Burrows (3-0, 1.30) of the Flying Tigers. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
