PaddleHeads Hang on in 'Knockout' Win over Hawks
July 4, 2022 - Pioneer League (PL)
Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
Boise, ID - Things would look bleak in the early going for the Missoula PaddleHeads in game 2 of a 3 game set at Memorial Stadium opposite the Boise Hawks. After starting pitcher Rafael Monsion was forced to depart in the first inning due to injury, Boise would take control, leading 7-2 through 4. Despite having a lot stacked against them, Missoula would battle back in the middle innings setting up a close fight to the finish down the stretch.
In innings 5 through 7, Missoula would score 7 unanswered runs to take the lead at 9-7. The Hawks countered in the final two frames however, scoring 3 times to tie the score at 10. The Hawks also threatened to end the game with a walk off in the ninth inning after a game tying home run started the frame. Missoula found a way to keep the Hawks off the board after that point however which led to the game being sent to a 'Knockout.' Jayson Newman would be called upon in the situation and would launch 1 homer in the opening round. Needing a home run to keep the battle going, Jacob Cruce of Boise came up short giving Missoula an 1-0 win in the knockout.
