Published on December 2, 2010 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release
ROUND ROCK, Tex. - The Pacific Coast League, from its new office location in Round Rock, TX, today released its championship schedule for the 2011 season. The 144-game format results in each team facing rival opponents within its own conference for two home and two away series, and competing against each club in the opposing conference for one series during the season. Fans throughout the league will eagerly anticipate another hard-fought campaign, as last season entered its final weekend with all four division titles unclaimed.
The 2011 season will commence with Opening Day Ceremonies on Thursday, April 7, including two series featuring a rematch of opponents in last season's Conference Playoffs. In the Pacific Conference, the 2010 PCL Champion Tacoma Rainiers will revisit last season's first-round foe, the Sacramento River Cats, while American Conference champion Memphis and the Oklahoma City RedHawks will square off at AutoZone Park in the Redbirds home city. In other opening matchups, the newly-renamed Omaha Storm Chasers will visit the Isotopes in Albuquerque, and the San Diego Padres' Triple-A club, relocated for the 2011 season to Tucson, AZ, will open the season in Colorado Springs against the Sky Sox.
Two PCL clubs will proudly unveil new ballparks for the upcoming season. Werner Park will be the new 9000-seat home of the Omaha club when they host the Nashville Sounds on April 15, while Tacoma will debut the fully-reconstructed Cheney Stadium against Sacramento, also on Friday, April 15.
The Triple-A All-Star Game will return to a Pacific Coast League host city in 2011, with the showcase event being held at Spring Mobile Park in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, July 13. The PCL regular season will conclude on Monday, September 5; postseason play will begin two days later with two best-of-five Conference Playoff series, followed by the best-of-five League Championship Series. The PCL Champion will then advance to the Triple-A Baseball National Championship Game, to face the champions of the International League in the annual one-game, winner-take-all matchup to determine the overall Triple-A Champion for 2011, scheduled for September 20th.
