Princeton WhistlePigs News Release

The Princeton Devil Rays pro baseball team will attempt to do their part to help assure that any youth in this area that would like to play baseball will not be denied the opportunity just because they do not own a baseball glove. The first step toward this goal came with the P-Rays announcing the creation of the team's "Kid Gloves" program on January 28.

The concept of the program is very simple. Anyone who has a baseball glove that they no longer wish to keep is asked to donate the glove to the P-Rays. The team will then keep all of these gloves inventoried and in storage for those kids who may not be able to afford a baseball glove of their own. Kids who would be in need of a glove would then be able to visit Hunnicutt Field, home of the P-Rays, and pick from among the available gloves for one that would be theirs to keep.

"It is the hope of the Princeton Devil Rays that anyone who has a baseball glove just sitting in their closet with no intention of using it again will contact us and make arrangements to donate it for a child in need," commented P-Rays General Manager Jim Holland in announcing the program. He added that he did not want the lack of a glove to hamper a child's desire to play baseball and that providing this service is a way for the P-Rays to assist in encouraging the game's growth among young people.

For those wishing to donate gloves, you may call the P-Rays at (304) 487-2000 to make arrangements to drop the glove off at the stadium or to have it picked up. Those who live outside the immediate Princeton area and wish to mail the glove via U.S. postal mail may do so by mailing it to:

P-Rays Kid Gloves Program

P. O. Box 5646

Princeton, West Virginia 24740

For those wishing to ship via a method other than U.S. mail (UPS, Federal Express, etc.), a physical delivery address will be provided upon request.

To inquire about the availability of gloves or to ask questions, contact the team by e-mail at raysball@sunlitsurf.com or by phone at (304) 487-2000.
