Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced that Ozzie Guillen will guest manage the team for one game on Friday, August 19th at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, CT. Guillen, a World Series Champion manager with the Chicago White Sox in 2005, will don a professional baseball uniform once again, this time for the Bridgeport Bluefish, as they square off against the Somerset Patriots. The former White Sox player and manager will also be available for a special meet-and-greet with fans before the game.
"On the heels of Jennie Finch's and Roger Clemens' appearances this season, we are excited to bring another highly recognized baseball personality to Bridgeport," says Bluefish General Manager Jamie Toole. "We encourage everyone to come out to the Ballpark to meet Ozzie Guillen on August 19th and experience this special occasion."
Guillen retired from professional baseball as a player in 2000, after spending 16 years in the Major Leagues, including 13 with the Chicago White Sox. He also spent time with the Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The slick fielding infielder made his big league debut with the White Sox in 1985 and would win the American League Rookie of the Year award that season after collecting a .273 batting average with 71 runs scored, 33 RBI, and 31 extra-base hits, while posting a .980 fielding percentage in 150 games played at shortstop. He would also go on to win an American League Gold Glove award at shortstop in 1990 with Chicago.
Ozzie began his coaching career in 2001 with the Montreal Expos, spending two years with the franchise. He was a member of the World Champion Florida Marlins coaching staff in 2003 before being named manager of the Chicago White Sox in 2004. In only his second season in the helm, Guillen led the White Sox to a World Series title in 2005, the team's first since 1917. He would continue to manage Chicago for another six years, collecting a 678-617 record with the club. Ozzie made his final Major League managerial appearance with the Miami Marlins in 2012.
Prior to the game, the Bluefish will host a private meet-and-greet with Ozzie Guillen in the Two Roads Beer Garden at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard at 5:30 p.m. Those who attend this event will have a photo opportunity with Guillen as well as receive an autograph from the former White Sox player and manager. The cost to attend this event is $35 per person and a very limited amount of space is available.
Game time for Friday, August 19th is set for 7:12 p.m., with The Ballpark at Harbor Yard gates opening at 6:12 p.m. Tickets and more information regarding the meet-and-greet package are available by visiting the Bluefish Box Office, calling (203) 210-BLUE, or going to www.bridgeportbluefish.com.
