Oye Goal Lifts IceGators to Victory over Mississippi

Biloxi, Mississippi - The Louisiana IceGators end their six-game road trip in winning fashion, defeating the Mississippi Surge 3-2. The victory snaps a three-game losing streak dating back to October 27 and puts the IceGators (3-3) back at .500.

The IceGators opened the scoring early in the contest. Braden Metz scored his fifth goal of the year 25 seconds into the first period after taking a feed from Matt Wallace. The Surge responded with two goals of their own in the period. Scott Jenks scored the first goal on a powerplay at the 2:43 mark to tie the game. Shawn Skelly gave the Surge a 2-1 lead at the 6:00 mark. The IceGators tied the match with 23 seconds left in the second period when August Aiken scored a powerplay goal off of a pass from Eric Tallent. Jordan Oye scored the game-winner with 4:58 remaining in regulation with assists from Kevin Beauregard and Shawn Murray.

The IceGators are now tied for third in the SPHL standings. They next take the ice Friday night when they open a two-game home stand against the Augusta RiverHawks.
