Brooklyn Aviators News Release
BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators defeated the Cape Cod Bluefins 7-3 on Saturday night at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Federal Hockey League action.
Aviators' rookie forward Andrew Owsiak had a hat trick on the night, while Jesse Felten chipped in with four helpers in Brooklyn's third straight victory over Cape Cod.
Brooklyn erupted with six goals in the opening frame to take a 6-1 lead over the Bluefins after the first twenty minutes of play. Rookie forward Matt Atsoff kicked things off with his eighth goal of the season just 2:57 into the period. Lucas Schott doubled the A's lead 2-0 on his second in a Brooklyn uniform, before Cape Cod forward Todd Chinova cut into the lead with 12:49 left on his third tally of the year. The Aviators answered with four straight after the Chinova marker, with three coming from Owsiak and the other from Atsoff.
Only one goal was scored in the second period, and it came off the stick of Aviators forward Anthony Iaquinto with 4:35 left in the frame. Defenseman Henry Coxe let a shot go from the right point, which was then redirected by Iaquinto in the slot to give the A's a 7-1 lead.
Cape Cod answered with two goals in the third period, however it was not enough as Brooklyn cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Bluefins.
Jeff Rose picked up his first win in an Aviators uniform stopping 27 shots, while Bluefins netminder Chris Testa turned aside 24 in a relief effort.
The Brooklyn Aviators will enter the year 2012 with a two game road swing up in Alexandria Bay, NY where they will take on the 1000 Islands Privateers next week on Friday, Jan. 6th and Saturday, Jan. 7th. Both game times are scheduled for 7:05 PM.
