Sox Defeated by Orem 11-0

Orem, UT Tonight the Great Falls White Sox were defeated by the Orem Owlz 11-0 in Orem. Carlos Perez (1-5) took the loss for the Sox as he worked five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits. The win went to Stephen Merek (1-2) as he worked six innings, allowing only one hit while striking out 12.

The Owlz scored first in the ballgame in the second inning. Stantrel Smith singled to right to bring home Josh Cowles. Smith later scored on a throwing error by Javier Castillo to put Orem up 2-0.

Orem would add three more runs in their half of the sixth. The first run scored on an error as Matt Sharp dropped the ball at a play at the plate. Later in the inning, Mark Trumbo and Greg Dini each added RBI singles. Orem went up 5-0.

Orem would put the game away in the eighth as they scored six times. Orem sent 10 men to the plate, as the Sox aided the Owlz with two errors in the inning. Orem would go on to the 11-0 win.

In the game, Great Falls managed only four hits in the loss and had 16 strikeouts.

Tomorrow night the Sox will take on the Owlz for the second of a three game series in Orem. The starters for the game are: Paul Moviel (RHP) for Great Falls and Jose Arredondo (RHP) for Orem. Game time is at 7:05pm and can be heard on 560AM-KMON starting at 6:50.
