Oregon Waves News Release
The Orem Owlz continued their hot start to the season, beating Idaho Falls 6-3 on Saturday night. For the second straight day, the bullpen was asked to throw more than five innings, and once again, the bullpen was fantastic.
Aaron Meade started for the Owlz (5-1) and went 3.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Danny Reynolds, Taylor Kinzer and Eric Cendejas combined for 5.2 innings of shutout baseball. Reynolds picked up the win, going 1.2 innings and giving up only two hits. Kinzer, who picked up the save in Monday's win, pitched three shutout innings, giving up only two hits and a walk. Cendejas pitched a perfect ninth for the save.
The Owlz didn't score in bunches tonight, instead scoring one run in four different innings and two runs in the 7th inning.
It was the Chukars (2-4) who got the scoring started in the first when Tyler Chism scored on a wild pitch. The Owlz answered in the top of the 2nd on a RBI single by Jerod Yakubik that plated Gary Mitchell. Yakubik had ttwo hits and 3 RBIs in the game. The Chukars took back the lead in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single by Runey Davis.
That Chukars lead did not last, as the Owlz got one in the top of the 3rd on a bases-loaded walk to Abel Baker that scored Jarrod Parks. Parks finished the night 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Baker was 1 for 1, with a RBI and three walks.
Orem got its first lead of the game in the top of the 4th on Trevor Hairgrove's solo home run. Hairgrove was hitless coming into that at-bat.
The Chukars tied it up in the bottom of the 4th on a RBI groundout by Michael Liberto. That would be the last time the Chukars would score, as the Owlz got one in the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Ray, and two in the 7th on a Yakubik two-run single.
With the win, the Owlz hold a two game lead in the South division. The third game of the four game series is Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
