Down by 15 with two minutes to go, Saturday night in Edmonton, the Albany Legends win at buzzer with Lloyd Johnson's 45 footer!
Albany Legends Lloyd Johnson hits from 45 feet away- for the game winner 120 to 118. Listening to the game on radio, IBL Commissioner Mikal Duilio feels that this might be one of the best basketball finishes of all time- as the Albany Legends storm back from down 13 points with 1 minute and roughly 40 seconds to go- to win at the Edmonton Energy. Eerily similar to how the Albany Legends beat the Battle Creek Knights in the 2010 playoffs, down 7 points with 60 seconds left in that game, then head coach Derrick Rowland puts in a press and wins the playoff miracle game; tonight, head coach Ben Smith of the Albany Legends similarly waited till just under 2 minutes in the game to put his press in and it worked well as the Albany Legends outscored Edmonton by 15 points in those final two minutes. 'Best finish I have even seen to a basketball game' says the radio broadcast crew that flew out from Albany, also saying-'one of the most amazing finishes I have ever seen, down 13 points with 2 minutes to go'. The final play after two missed free throws by Rashaun Broadus was Albany's Evan Lane with the rebound to Joe Harris to Lloyd Johnson for the game winner (Lloyd Johnson had hit another deep three pointer six seconds prior to this game winner). Lloyd Johnson told his team prior to the game winner as Edmonton lines up for the free throws with 5 seconds to go, 'if he (Broadus) misses one of two free throws, we will win this, get me the ball'. The Albany Legends reclaim the top record in the IBL with the win. These two teams match up tomorrow at the University of Alberta at 2pm (4 pm edt listen on www.wcdbfm.com ).
