Forest City Owls News Release

FOREST CITY - Despite returning from Edenton at four in the morning, the Owls hopped on the bus for a double header in Columbia and took game one against the Blowfish.

Zach Cerbo homered in the fifth and Thurber, Smith and Goodling combined to allow just one run in a 2-1 Owls victory on Thursday evening.

This game was continued from June 12, in which the game was called in the top of the fourth inning due to lightning. There was a runner on first for the Blowfish to start off the game in the fourth.

Taylor Thurber, who went the first three innings in Forest City, did not make the trip to Columbia today after throwing 6 and a third innings against Peninsula on Tuesday night.

Matthew Smith picked up right where Thurber left off and went on to throw 4.2 innings allowing one run on five hits.

The Owls got on the board first in the fourth inning after an RBI single from Derek Hannahs.

After Cerbo's homerun in the fifth, the Blowfish answered right back with a run of their own but that's all their offense could get.

Brock Goodling, the Owls closer earned his second save of the year after inducing a lineout and two strikeouts in the ninth.

The Owls are set to play game two of the doubleheader at 7:05.
