FOREST CITY- After a 40 minute rain delay in the 8th inning, the Asheboro Copperheads pulled within one run but fell short and the Forest City Owls were victorious on Friday night.
Owls starter Eric Birklund went five innings and picked up his second win of the year with a 6-5 victory over Asheboro.
Birklund allowed three hits, just one run and struck out two in his win.
The Owls exploded in the first inning with four runs behind a wild pitch and RBI's from Cerbo and Sheehan, who each had two RBI's on the night.
The Owls other two runs came after a sac fly from Cerbo in the third and a Copperhead throwing error which brought home Devin Wenzel.
After the Copperheads pulled within one after three different relievers, closer Brock Goodling came into the game for a five out save and earned his fifth of the year.
Tomorrow night the Owls take on the HI-Toms at 7:30, with the Guns vs. Hoses game before that at 5:00.
The Owls will continue the 2014 season at home Saturday night they take on HP-Thomasville at 7:30. Fans can purchase season tickets, ý season plans and 5-game Fireworks plans by calling the Owls office at 828-245-0000. Key dates for the 2014 season include: Fireworks Games on Saturday July 5th and Saturday August 2nd. Single game tickets are on sale now. The Owls will also take on the Chinese Taipei National team on July 7th.
