
Owls Fall To Hi-Toms

FOREST CITY - The Forest City Owls were defeated by HP-Thomasville on Sunday night in a back and forth game.
No team scored runs consecutively and the Owls fell 3-2 at Finch Field to the Hi-Toms.
The game winning run came in the seventh inning for the HI-Toms after an RBI single from Paradowski, which ended Eric Birklunds night.
Birklund threw six 1/3 innings of six hit baseball, allowing three runs and striking out seven for the Owls.
The Hi-toms first run of the game came from Brad Morton's homerun in the first inning, his second in as many games.
The Owls didn't get very much going offensively recording just two hits through the first four innings, but had their share of base runners after walking five times and reaching on a HBP.
The rest of the way, the Owls only recorded three hits.
The Owls got their first run of the game in the 5th inning behind two walks, a past ball, and an RBI fielder's choice from Devin Wenzel.
Their second run came the following inning after Lucas Owens got back in the hit column, shooting one up the middle for an RBI single scoring Joey Hawkins.
Chase Cunningham allowed one run on two hits, five walks and had five strikeouts through five and a third innings for HP-Thomasville.
The Owls will continue the 2014 season at home Monday night they take on Mooresville at 7:30. Key dates for the 2014 season include: Fireworks Games on Saturday July 5th and Saturday August 2nd. Single game tickets are on sale now. The Owls will also take on the Chinese Taipei National team on July 7th.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 of those - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut; while another notable alum - Russell Wilson - won Super Bowl XLVIII.
