Forest City Owls News Release

FOREST CITY - Owls catcher Zach Cerbo was the hero on Saturday night in Forest City.

With bases loaded and one out in the ninth, Cerbo singled in pinch-runner Kyle Prats to defeat the High Point Thomasville HI-Toms 4-3 in walk-off fashion at McNair Field.

After being limited to four hits throughout the first eight innings, Conor Clancey singled off reliever Jordan Simons to lead off the bottom of the 9th before a single and a walk got him to third base. Bases were loaded with one out when Prats was called upon to run for Clancey at third base and scored the game winning run.

Matthew Smith, who started the game for the Owls was pulled after three innings due to tightness in the arm. Christian Pfaff took over for him down 1-0 and went on to throw six shutout innings before the HI-Toms scored two to take a one run lead in the 8th inning.

Pfaff allowed two runs on six hits, and struck out seven before being replaced by Goodling in the 8th.

Wenzel scored in the seventh inning and Pallares in the 8th, after a RBI single from Maleeke Gibson which tied the game up at three.

Goodling came back out for the 9th and shut down the visiting team for the second straight night and earned his second win of the year.

Devin Wenzel hit a towering home run off Hi-Toms starter Brody Kearner in the fifth to tie the game up at one a piece.

The Owls were without a hit before that.

Owls will be on the road tomorrow night in Thomasville to take on the Hi-Toms again.
