
OVMC/EORH and Ohio Valley Greyhounds Join Forces

Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital have been selected to be the exclusive health care providers for the Ohio Valley Greyhounds. The official announcement was made today by Mr. George Kellas, Director of Finance of the Greyhounds and Mr. Brian K. Felici, President and CEO of OVMC & EORH.
OVMC & EORH have enlisted the following physicians, employees and business associates to provide a comprehensive healthcare program to the Ohio Valley Greyhounds. Services will be provided at home and away games and practices.
Team Physician and Medical Director will be Dr. Michael Bryan Kovalick a Board Certified Internal Medicine and OVMC/EORH EMSTAR physician. He currently serves as the team physician for the Bellaire High School Football Team. Jason Rine will be the team Athletic Trainer.
Workers Compensation Specialist will be Catherine E. Hayes, DO. She is the Medical Director for the Wellness, and Employee Health Programs within OVHS&E and also a physician with Occupational Health.
The Fitness & Program Coordinator will be George Frazier, General Manger for CentreTown Fitness.
Orthopedic Providers will include John A. Michalski, MD a Board certified Orthopedic Surgeon who focuses on orthopedic sports injuries and joint reconstruction. Richard S. Glass, MD a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and Jesse L. Sandlin, MD who specializes in Orthopedic Surgery.
West Virginia University Department of Neurosurgery will provide neurosurgery coverage for the team. WVU currently operates weekly clinics in addition to the 24/7-neurosurgery trauma coverage they provide to OVMC's EMSTAR. WVU Department of Neurosurgery faculty members, including Julian Bailes, MD, Department Chairman; Stephen M Bloomfield, MD; Warren Boling, MD; Larry V. Carson, MD; John J. Collins, MD, Pediatric Neurosurgery; Charles L. Rosen, MD, PhD and Joseph L. Voelker, MD. Mason Rehabilitation Services will be the Physical Therapy Provider for the team.
EMSTAR at OVMC and EORH will be the Emergency Medicine Provider. EMSTAR is a 24-hour emergency and trauma care center and is a Level 2 Trauma Center in West Virginia and a Level 3 Trauma Center in Ohio. EMSTAR is staffed by board certified and board eligible emergency medicine physicians and highly trained emergency medicine nurses, technicians and medical assistants.
The Greyhound's Fitness Facility will be OVMC's CentreTown Fitness. CentreTown is a state-of-the art health and fitness complex in Downtown Wheeling. Ultra-modern facility with all the latest in training equipment and a full team of qualified instructors. Cybex/Magnum Fitness Systems for strength training, full complement of plate loading machines, benches and dumbbells, Cardiovascular machines, Cardio Theater, Indoor Track, Whirlpool and Sauna room.
The Occupational Health Provider for the Greyhounds will be Occupational Health System (OHS) of Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital. OHS has an experienced staff of occupational health physicians, physician assistants, nurses and medical assistants who specialize in worker's compensation injuries. The OHS clinics offer initial injury and follow-up treatment for West Virginia and Ohio worker's compensation patients. In addition OHS can implement and conduct an array of programs and services designed to decrease absenteeism, turnover rate, retraining costs, medical costs, Worker's Compensation benefits, risks and liabilities, accidents and health problems.
Ohio Valley Medical Center is a 200-bed hospital in the heart of downtown Wheeling. East Ohio Regional Hospital is a 250-bed hospital located in Martins Ferry, Ohio. In 1981, EORH joined with OVMC to form Ohio Valley Health Services and Education Corporation, an integrated health care delivery system comprising of the two hospitals, River Health Enterprises and Family Service-Upper Ohio Valley.
