Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â Colin Embley's wrist shot from between the circles snuck through traffic to beat San Diego Gulls goaltender Trevor Koenig 13:54 into the first overtime period as the Fresno Falcons won Game Four of the Taylor Cup Finals on Friday at Selland Arena to tie the best-of-seven series at two games apiece.
Fresno never would have gotten to the extra session without the stellar play of goaltender Terry Friesen. He held the Gulls at bay by making 12 saves in the first period before Rob Bonneau banged in a rebound on the power play at 19:16 of the first to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead heading to the second.
San Diego tied the game with a power play goal of their own from Trevor Sherban off a blast from the point at 5:57 of the second. Bonneau responded with his second of the night for the Falcons when he took a pretty cross-ice feed from David Haas and sent home a one-timer to give Fresno a 2-1 advantage at 7:51 of the middle period.
The Falcons held their one-goal lead until mid-way into the third. Clayton Read streaked up the left wing and found Kevin Grant in front for the game-tying goal at 10:01, and the teams completed regulation still tied at two.
Embley's winner came after Kevin Haupt held the puck in at the right point to set up the league's Rookie of the Year in the slot. But the play in net of Friesen, who stopped 42 of 44 on the evening including three breakaway bids from the Gulls' top scorer Mark Pederson throughout the game, allowed the club to make good on its effort to tie the series.
With the series now tied at two after Fresno trailed initially two games to none, the teams play Game Five tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at Selland Arena. They will then return to San Diego next Saturday, May 10, for at least a Game Six and possibly a Game Seven on Sunday, May 11, at the San Diego Sports Arena.
Tickets are now on sale for Game Five at the Selland Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Arena/Loge seats cost $16 and Balcony seats cost $12.
