Over a Cup of Coffee

April 21, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
The week that was was pretty slow in the news department, mostly just game stuff which is good. I'm not disappointed by a lack of drama in the indoor football world.
Having said that, I have a beef with the AIFA and their not posting of the Fayetteville-New Jersey score until sometime late Monday or early Tuesday morning. Doesn't anybody in the AIFA offices know how to pick up a phone and call? But I guess I should expect this kind of thing from the league that appears to care less about their fans than any of the other leagues, including some semi-pro ones.
Speaking of the Guard, here is a team I don't understand. They have had some success in their history, but have never come off as being well run. This season it almost appeared to outsiders they were going to fold the team, then at the last minute decided to do it one more time. I've met Richard King, owner of the Guard, and he seemed like a nice guy and good businessman, so I don't understand his lack of attention to the team, its fans and its future. But I guess they aren't the only franchise out there that appears to be struggling.
On to other things. I noticed the IFL still has three teams without a win: Maryland, Colorado and La Crosse. Only Amarillo is undefeated, but the league has five other teams with only one loss. Baltimore and Wyoming remain undefeated in the AIFA, while New Jersey, Wasilla and Ogden still have yet to find their way into the win column. Albany stands at 2-0 down in the SIFL with just Lafayette still to win a game. In the CIFL Cincinnati enjoys a 4-0 start while Chicago is 0-3. Congratulations to those teams who are obviously doing it right on the field and to those eight with zero wins, you might want to do something about that soon.
Looking ahead to the weekend I see some good games on the menu. Reading 3-3 at Erie 2-3 on Sunday looks like the best out there in the AIFA. Marion at Wisconsin for sole possession of number two also appears to be a good matchup. Both teams sit at 2-1 and trail league-leading Cincinnati who is running away with the everything so far. Omaha at Green Bay appears to be about the best game going in the IFL. Omaha is at the point of having to win or forget about the playoffs, while Green Bay is enjoying its post-af2 life sitting at 6-1 and on top in the Central North, while the Beef are struggling at 2-3 in the tough Central West.
