North Iowa Outlaws News Release
(Owatonna, MN) The North Iowa Outlaws were defeated by Southern Minnesota, 5-2 Saturday night at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna. The loss was the third straight overall for North Iowa, and extended the Outlaws' winless streak to seven games.
One bright spot for the Outlaws was the return to the lineup of forwards Chris Mackay (Missouri City, TX) and Patrick Dynan (Maple Plain, MN). Mackay assisted on both North Iowa goals, while Dynan netted his team-leading 17th goal on the power play in the third period. The Outlaws other goal came off the stick of Mike Wallgren (Oakdale, MN), off a pretty set-up from Mackay. The score was Wallgren's third of the season.
Saturday's game marked the debut of three Outlaws players who were acquired earlier in the week. Defenseman Art Clark (Bloomington, MN) was in the starting lineup, while forward Derek Elliott (Des Moines, IA) and defenseman Nikki Holt (Hermantown, MN) both saw significant playing time.
After Wallgren's goal tied the game, 1-1 late in the first period, Southern Minnesota countered, with three unanswered scores. Defenseman Jeff Carlson gave the Express some momentum, with a goal just 16 seconds after Wallgren scored. Part of the three-goal surge included a short-handed tally from Mike Montgomery. Forward Sean Murphy scored twice for the Express, which raised its record to 15-8-3 with the win. The loss leaves the Outlaws' record at 10-14-2, for 22 points, which places North Iowa in a tie for fourth place in the NAHL Central Division.
The Outlaws and Southern Minnesota play again Sunday afternoon, December 4th, at North Iowa Arena in Mason City, IA. The game is scheduled to start at 1:35.
