North Iowa Outlaws News Release

Big wins can energize a team, and the North Iowa Outlaws fed off the overtime win against the Traverse City Stars on Thursday night when they stepped on the ice Friday with the Robertson Cup Runner-ups from Mahoning Valley. The Outlaws showed their true potential against the Phantoms, controlling the play in a solid all-around effort for their second victory of the season.

The Outlaws came out screaming in the first period, controlling the play in the Mahoning Valley zone for the first two minutes, forcing the Phantoms to call their time-out to settle things down. The quick talk from the Phantoms coach didn't work as the Outlaws came back quickly and scored on the power play when Brooks DeZellar knocked home his own rebound on an assist from Shea Walters and Tyler Romasco to give North Iowa the lead. However, the Phantoms answered back on a 5-on-3 power play to tie the game at the end of the first period.

In the second, North Iowa's Joe Harcharik let a shot fly for the top of the circle which found its way into the back of the net to regain the lead for North Iowa. Max Mobley picked up the assist on the Harcharik goal and then went to work with a pair of his own. Late in the second as the Phantoms tried to wrap the puck out of the zone, Beau Braun held the puck in with a shot towards the net that Mobley skated in front of and redirected it in for the goal. He finished off the Phantoms with a nice rebound goal in the third that was the nail in the coffin as the Outlaws down the Phantoms 4-2.

Moss was strong again between the pipes, stopping 28 of 30 shots on goal. The Outlaws finish off the NAHL Showcase with a match-up against the Alpena Ice Diggers Saturday at 6:30 PM.
