North Iowa Outlaws News Release

It was a strong match-up in Mason City Saturday night, as the Outlaws took on the Bismark Bobcats at the North Iowa Ice Arena. North Iowa lit the lamp first, with a "tic-tac-toe" goal starting with an intercepted pass by league leading scorer, Shea Walters who gave a pass to point Ross Ring-Jarvi. Ring-Jarvi then found Bryant Skarda in front of the goal for an easy put away to put the Outlaws up 1-0. The Outlaws retained the lead with some huge saves from goaltender Matt Beggs and a shut down on the Bobcats powerplay late in the period to end the first with a 1-0 lead.

The second period panned out similar to the first, as the Outlaws maintained puck control, but saw more intensity and aggressiveness from the Bobcats, who came out stronger and harder than the previous period. The game pace was quickened with an interfering penalty by the Bobcats on North Iowa goaltender Beggs, which the Outlaws took full advantage of. After a quick face-off win in favor of North Iowa, a 3 on 1 was rushed down into the Bobcats defensive zone as Max Mobley hit Tyler Jundt, who found Joseph Harcharik for the easy put away goal. Bismark followed the goal with a power play of their own, but again were unable to capitilize for the third time tonight. While they maintained control in their offensive zone Bismark did not manage to take one shot and with help from continuios saves by Matt Beggs, the Bobcats remained scoreless, and the Outlaws went into the final period ahead 2-0.

Intensity ran high in the closing third period, and the Outlaws were denied their game shutout as Bismarks Eric Lund scored early in the third with a great shot just over Beggs' glove hand on a set up pass from Eric Herbel and Joel Whited, making it a one goal game. With the win not sealed, the Outlaws found themselves with less control of the puck, and more penalties, putting the Bobcats on two more powerplays, and giving them further scoring oppurtunities. The Outlaws found their control towards the end of the period, as they held off the tying goal with the Bobcats added pressure and extra skater--after Bobcats goaltender Jake Kramer was pulled--to seal the win at home 2-1, and the 14th win over the Bobcats alone, Saturday night.
