January 12, 2008 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release
Alpena - For the second consecutive night, the Alpena IceDiggers turned aside the Marquette Rangers in North American Hockey League North Division action at Northern Lights Arena, this time by a final of 4-2.
With the loss, Marquette (20 - 13 - 2) now trails Alpena by two points in the NAHL North Division race heading into the Division Showcase this coming weekend at Mahoning Valley.
Marquette's Nick Condon (Wausau, WI.) opened the scoring for the Rangers at 6:22 of the first period with Luke Hannon picking up the lone assist. But as the Rangers have seen several times this season against Alpena, the lead was short lived as Jon Puskar scored a late goal to even the game at 18:02 of the period.
Marquette seemed to recover the momentum early in the second period when Nic Weight (Eagle River, WI.) scored to make it 2-1 Rangers at the 3:14 mark, James Gallagher and Aaron Pietila picked up the assists.
After that, however, Alpena started rolling.
Ryan Timar scored at 12:56 then it was Puskar again on an unassisted effort to provide the eventual game-winner at 17:09. Alpena would ice the game in the third period with a goal at 13:50 from Jerrod Hartman.
Marquette's Beau Christian stopped 38 of 42 IceDigger shots on the night, while Nathan Pellegrino faced 28 Rangers efforts and stopped 26 of them.
Marquette's travels continue with four games in four days at the inaugural NAHL North Division Showcase hosted by Mahoning Valley January 18 - 21 at The IceZone in Boardman, Ohio.
