North Iowa Outlaws News Release
The North Iowa Outlaws faced an aggressive Alexandria team Friday night in Mason City for the first time since splitting with them in October and would shut their pressure down to get a 5-1 win for the night. The Outlaws drew a penalty mere seconds into the game putting them on penalty kill. Despite this, the Blizzard were unable to capitalize until scoring few minutes later at 14:57 with a top shelf goal over Outlaws goaltender Robby Moss. Both teams skated aggressively but the Outlaws saw large pressure from Alexandria, who managed to keep the play in the outlaws defensive zone for much of the period. North Iowa was finally able to get on the board at 9:24 when Max Moley pulled Alexandria goaltender Ryan Leets out of position and hit Krystian Dziubinski to make it a 1-1 game. Despite ending the period in a tie, the Blizzard out worked and out shot the Outlaws 21-11.
The Outlaws were able to gain momentum going into the second period, as they began on a powerplay carried over from the first. Although they were unable to capitalize for the fourth time that night, Derek Donahue was able to get in a backhanded rebound goal past a scrambiling Leets, off a Tyler Romasco shot to give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead. The outlaws were able to keep the puck in their offensive zone much of the period and out shot the Blizzard 3-2. as they saw some great goaltending from Moss. As things heated up, Alexandria's John MacRae was ejected from the game for abuse of officials as a result of a double minor roughing penalty with just 24 seconds left in the period, resulting in a four-minute powerplay for North Iowa, extending into the third period.
The Third period made for an exciting conclusion as the Outlaws took over total control and we're finally able to capitalize on a powerplay (they went 1/8 for the night) at 8:51 as Joseph Harcharik beat Leets gloveside in front of the net to give the Outlaws a two goal lead. Seconds later The Outlaws increased that lead with a right corner goal by Ricky Doriott at 7:19. Doriott assisted three minutes later on the game winning goal by Bobby Moe. Things again got heated between the two teams immediatley following the goal as it resulted in three game misconduct ejections; Two on Outlaw's Bobby Moe and Ricky Doriott and one on the Blizzard's Jens Nilsson. The Outlaws would hold off the pressure from Alexandria for the fifth penalty kill of the night and with some great goaltending from Moss--who made 38 saves for the night--the Outlaws got the 5-1 win.
