Chico Outlaws News Release

(Chico, CA. September 15th, 2010) The Chico Outlaws took a two games to none lead in the best-of-five GBL Championship Series with a 5-1 win over the Maui Na Koa Ikaika in game two on Wednesday night at Nettleton Stadium.

Garret Holleran (2-0) went six innings and was superb for a second straight post-season start, allowing one unearned run on four hits and striking out four. Holleran's final pitch, his 88th of the night, struck out Travon Jackson of Maui to end a bases-loaded jam in the top of the sixth.

Kaimi Mead (0-1), making a spot start due to the Na Koa Ikaika's use of a three-man rotation in their first round playoff series win over Orange County that went five games, got saddled with the loss after throwing six innings and surrendering three earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out three.

Maui got their lone run of the night in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Fehlandt Lentini singled to start the game and then ended up at third base after stealing second and advancing to third on an error by second baseman Bobby Hill when he let the throw from catcher Robby Alcombrack get away from him. One batter later, Gered Mochizuki's RBI groundout to first base plated Lentini, giving Maui a 1-0 lead.

Na Koa Ikaika right fielder Mark Okano had trouble with the lights right off the bat in the bottom of the first inning when the ball off Outlaws center fielder Blake Gailen's bat dropped behind him for a triple. Hill's sac fly to right cashed in Gailen to tie the game at one each. Left fielder JJ Sherrill then smacked a ball to right field that Okano again lost in the lights, allowing Sherrill to get to third base. One batter later, Outlaws first baseman Mark Samuelson launched his first post-season homerun over the right-center field wall, a two-run shot to put Chico up 3-1.

The game would stay that way until the bottom of the eighth, when Santo DeLeon's two-RBI triple scored Hill and Samuelson to put the Outlaws up 5-1.

Despite loading the bases in the game twice, Maui could muster just four hits off Outlaws pitching and the Chico bullpen threw three innings of scoreless relief. Justin Segal picked up his second save of the post-season with an inning and two-thirds of relief.

The Outlaws now lead the best of five series two games to none.

The teams will travel to the Valley Isle on Thursday and then play game three of the series at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku, Maui on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 9:35 PM PDT. Games four and five, if necessary, would be played Sunday and Monday.

All Outlaws playoff games will be broadcast live on the Outlaws Baseball Network and fans can catch all the action with Dan Hawkins, the voice of the Outlaws. Tuesday's pre game show will start at 6:50 PM PDT with first pitch at 7:05 pm. Watch live on www.justin.tv.com/chicooutlawsbaseball or audio only at www.chicooutlaws.com.
