Outlaws Morin and Moss Special in OT Win

After dropping a heartbreaker in a shootout to open the North American Hockey League regular season, the North Iowa Outlaws came out and played a solid game of hockey Thursday to pick up their first win of the year. The victory came off the stick of Matt Morin, knocking home a rebound on a Max Mobley shot to set off the celebration. Robby Moss rebounded after a shootout loss on Wednesday to pick up his first shutout of the season in the 1-0 victory over the Traverse City North Stars.
"I thought the guys competed harder today and played a much stronger game," Coach Boitz said after the game. "I felt like we were passing and executing better and Moss rebounded and played a great game. Traverse City's goalie played terrific but we got one when it counted and got the two points."
North Iowa came out and played a much better first period, which set the tempo for the game. Three periods of back and forth action gave way for tons of scoring chances, but no pucks in the net. Despite two 5-on-3 power plays, the Outlaws fell short of putting the game away as Brandon Stephenson played well between the pipes to equal Moss' goose egg on the scoreboard at the end of regulation.
In the overtime, it was all North Iowa as the Outlaws had chance after chance until Max Mobley split the defense with a shot that bounced off the glass and to the front of the net where Morin deflected by Stephenson for the lone goal of the game. North Iowa picked up their first victory of the season in their second overtime game in as many nights. North Iowa has three points on the season and faces off against the Mahoning Valley Phantoms tomorrow afternoon at 3:15 pm.
