
Outlaws exercise contract options on 23 players

CHICO, CALIF - Beginning the process of building its 2006 roster, the Chico Outlaws announced Tuesday it has exercised the contract options for 23 players from last season's team.
"The Outlaws players on the final 2005 roster will provide a solid foundation for next year's team," general manager Bob Linscheid said Tuesday. "We're confident they'll form the nucleus for a championship club in '06." The Outlaws won 30 of its last 44 games to finish the 2005 season with a 49-41 record, earning one of the Golden Baseball League's four playoff berths.
Among the Outlaws players the team has retained are pitchers Jordy Alexander, A.J. Ampi, Robert Anaya, Alex Carbajal, Mike Gits, Jeff Greoger, George Huguet , Alex Perez and Ryan Tracey, as well as the Golden Baseball League's 2005 Pitcher of the Year, Grant Gregg. Catchers Ryan Smith, T.J. Stower and Jim Wallace, infielders Josh Ashton, Bobby Gandolfo, Jesse Kovacs, Ryan Lehr, Dave Trujillo and Jason Van Meetren, and outfielders Steve Booker, Eddie Guessford, Mike Mallory and Steve Newson have also had their contract options exercised. Linscheid and Outlaws manager Mark Parent will now begin salary negotiations with the players to return to Chico for the upcoming 2006 season.
In other news, the Golden Baseball League has announced a two day player tryout beginning Tuesday, December 13 at Blair Field in Long Beach, the home of the GBL's Long Beach Armada. It will be the only league-wide tryout this year; the Outlaws will not be holding a team tryout prior to the 2006 season. All interested players need to be present on December 13; only those invited back will participate on the second day of the tryout. The cost to be part of the GBL tryout is 25 dollars.
