North Iowa Outlaws News Release
(Blaine, MN) Playing their first overtime game in franchise history, the North Iowa Outlaws edged the Santa Fe Roadrunners, 3-2 at the NAHL Showcase. The Outlaws finished with a 3-1 record at the four-day event, which included all 20 North American Hockey League teams.
Defenseman Kyle Bushee (Otsego, MI) slammed home the game-winning goal at 2:58 of overtime, after receiving a centering pass from Ben Boulay (Bloomington, MN). Boulay won a key face-off draw, prior to setting up the winning goal.
North Iowa never trailed in the contest, though Santa Fe rallied twice, to forge deadlocks. Steve McLeod (Atikokan, Ontario, Canada) put the Outlaws in front at 5:19 of the opening canto, on assists from Patrick Dynan (Maple Plain, MN) and Chris Mackay (Missouri City, TX). With the Roadrunners on a power play, Corey Stark tied the game, just 15 seconds into the second period. Dynan answered for the Outlaws later in the period, with his league-leading 13th goal, on an assist from Mike Bernardy (Sandy, UT). Stark scored his second goal four minutes into the final period, to create a 2-2 tie, which carried into overtime.
The Outlaws pulled to within one game of the .500 mark, with their seventh victory, in 15 tries. In spite of the overtime defeat, Santa Fe earned a point in the standings, with the Roadrunners' record changing to 5-5-1 on the season.
Play resumes Thursday for the Outlaws, with a home game with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Game time is set for 7:35 PM at the North Iowa Ice Arena. The Outlaws and Ice Dogs also play Friday night at 7:45, with the Wasilla Spirit challenging North Iowa's Most Wanted, for games at 7:30 PM Saturday night and 1:35 Sunday afternoon. The Sunday game will be preceded by the Outlaws' tailgate fundraiser, for Hurricane Katrina relief. A donation of five dollars or more will allow fans to enjoy a tailgate-style meal, prior to the game. All of the proceeds from the tailgate event will be donated to the American Red Cross, to assist those in the states devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
