Alpena IceDiggers News Release
The Alpena IceDiggers came to the North American Hockey League (NAHL) Showcase Tournament in Blaine, Minnesota Illinois this past week hoping to build on the momentum of two straight home wins. However, the âDiggers went just 1-3 With their 5-2 win over the Helena Big Horns on Saturday, the IceDiggers snapped a three game losing streak and salvaged a little pride at the 20 team tournament.
"We didn't play our best during the showcase, no doubt about it," said IceDigger Head Coach and General Manager Kenny Miller. âWhat I did see, is we came back Saturday and were able to get a win."
Even though the IceDiggers went 1-3, Miller feels the Showcase is a good way to evaluate the progress of the team. "The team see what it takes to be competitive in the league," said Miller. Miller also hopes his team realizes how important it is to have a high level of effort and expectation. " As we found out, When we don't play to our potential, it's going to be hard to win," said Miller.
The IceDiggers return home to face the National Team Development Program's Under 17 Team this Friday and Saturday, October 28-29 at 7:00 p.m. in NAHL North Division play. Tickets are still available for both contests and can be purchased during normal business hours at the IceDiggers office inside Northern Lights Arena.
