North Iowa Outlaws News Release
The North Iowa Outlaws main try-out camp continued Saturday evening in Anoka, Minnesota. The Outlaws opened camp Thursday night with practices, followed by a pair of games on Friday. Saturday morning marked the first of two cuts that came early in the morning, narrowing the 80 player field down to 40 for the final two games of the weekend.
After Saturday mornings cut, 40 kids battled on the ice in the first of two All-Star games which saw the Red team skate to a 4-3 win. Jace Hough (Omaha, NE) scored the first goal of the game to give Red 1-0 lead. Britton Smith (Burnsville, MN) and AJ Knapp (Red Wing, MN) assisted on the goal. Gold tied the game later in the period on a goal from Travis Peckskamp (Sauk Rapids, MN) with Shea Walters (Hibbing, MN) adding the assist. Peckskamp tendered with North Iowa, while Walters, who played for the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers last season, was drafted by the Outlaws in the first round in May.
Red answered back with two goals, the first off the stick of veteran Joe Harcharik (Des Moines, IA) and was followed up quickly by a strike for Jack Paul (Minnetonka, MN) that gave Red a 3-1 lead. Paul, another Outlaws tender, assisted on Harcharik's tally with Harcharik and fellow veteran Max Mobley (Phoenix, AZ) helping on the Paul goal.
In the second period, Ross Ring-Jarvi (Anoka, MN) pulled the Gold team within one. Kyle Politz, a tender from Elko, MN, assisted on the goal. The second period ended with the Red team still on top 3-2.
Clinging to a one goal lead, the Red squad looked to add some insurance which they got when Ryan Loach, (Guelph, Ontario CA) another tender, scored to make it 4-2 after a feed from returning defenseman Brandon Larson (New Richmond, WI). Despite taking a 4-2 lead with under four minutes left in the game, Gold battled back with a goal from Alex Carlson (Farmington, MN) to make it a 4-3 game, but Red held on for the win in Game One.
The Camp concludes Sunday with the final All-Star game at 11 am at the Anoka Ice Arena, pitching the same two teams against each other before the final cuts are made. The team will be announced in the coming weeks
