Outlaws Announce Team Awards

North Iowa Outlaws News Release


The North Iowa Outlaws held their end of the season banquet on Sunday at the Best Western Holiday Lodge in Clear Lake, IA and honored a few players with team awards. North Iowa, who finished the season with a 38-16-4 record, set a new NAHL All-Time record for wins in the Central Division on their way to the Regular Season Central Division Championship. Below are the awards given out at the Banquet:

Most Improved: Alex Carlson

Alex came to the Outlaws from the Rocky Mountain Wranglers Midget AAA team and was in and out of the line-up early in the season. Working hard in practice and off the ice to get stronger, the Farmington, MN native has now made a name for himself and is the leading rookie on the team in scoring with 23 points, (14G,9A).

Offensive Player of the Year: Shea Walters

The first round draft pick for the Outlaws in the 2007 entry draft, Walters joined the squad after spending a year in Green Bay with the USHL Gamblers. The Hibbing, MN native set an franchise scoring record for points in a single season, ecliping the mark set by Steve Mcleod last season. Walters, a Bemidji State University recruit, finished the year with 24 goals and 60 assists for 84 points, third in the league. He led the league in assists with 60.

Defensive Player of the Year: Tyler Jundt

Tyler also joined the Outlaws from the Green Bay Gamblers, and has been a steady force on the blue line. The Williston, ND native has chipped in 7 goals and 13 assists for 20 points while holding a +19 on the season. Jundt also committed to Bemidji State University for the 2008-09 season.

Outlaws Award

The Outlaws award is given to the player who best represents what the team and organization is about. It is given to a player who has the heart and desire to win that the organization is all about. This year, Max Mobley was voted the Outlaws Award winner by his teammates, honored for the second time. The Phoenix, AZ native won the award the Outlaws inaugural season, and this season surpassed Steve Mcleod to become the Outlaws All-time Leading Scorer.

MVP: Robby Moss

It's no surprise that Robby Moss was voted the teams MVP. Seeing 41 games this season, the Chesterfield, St Louis, MO finished with a record of 27-7-4 with 5 shutouts while leading the league in goals against average and tying an NAHL Record for save percentage with .940%. Moss committed to St. Lawrence University for next season.
