Three Assist Weekend Earns Bonnett Player of the Week Mention

FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, April 1, 2008) - The North American Hockey League announced on Monday evening that Mahoning Valley Phantoms veteran defenseman Trent Bonnett earned an honorable mention for Player of the Week in the North Division.
The 20-year-old tallied three assists this past weekend to help lead the Phantoms to a sweep over the U.S. National Team - their sixth undefeated weekend of the season. More impressive than his offensive production, however, the coaches are pleased with Bonnett's defensive consistency.
"Bonnett continues to come up huge for us defensively," said Phantoms assistant coach Curtis Carr. "He did a great job this weekend, as he always does, of blocking shots and clearing rebounds. We always put him up against the opponent's top line and he excels. He is a big part of our team."
The Butler, Pa. native is the second leading scorer among defensemen on the Phantoms team this year, having totaled four goals and 17 assists from the blue line. Bonnett has committed to play for NCAA Division I Bentley College (Waltham, Mass.) next season.
Bonnett and the Phantoms (36-18-4, 76 points) have finished up the regular season in second place in the North Division, and now gear up for the first round of the playoffs this weekend against the rival Alpena Ice Diggers.
The best-of-five North Division semi-finals will begin on Friday and Saturday night with Games 1 and 2 at the Ice Zone in Boardman. Game time both nights is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Catch all Phantoms hockey live on the web at www.mvpphantoms.com.
