CHICO, Calif. - The Chico Outlaws announced today they have acquired 3B Chris Kelly from the Sussex Skyhawks of the independent Can-Am league in exchange for future considerations.
Kelly, 27, is a right handed power hitting infielder who played his college baseball at Pepperdine University. After completing a successful collegiate career, he was drafted in the 6th round of 2003 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox. He hit .262 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI's during the 2009 season and was named to the 2009 Can-Am League All Star Team.
"Chris will give us a great power presence from the right side of the plate and will also bring veteran leadership to the clubhouse," said Outlaws Manager Gary Templeton. "He is a terrific all-around player and I think he will be a major contributor to our ballclub this summer."
The Outlaws open up their 6th season on the road on May 21st against the Cimarrrones de Tijuana.
