Cleveland Force News Release
CLEVELAND, OHIO â Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo today announced the return of Goalkeeper Otto Orf to the active roster.
Orf, an 18-year veteran of indoor soccer, was sidelined the first half of this season recovering from an injury acquired in late March of 2002, resulting in off season rotator cuff surgery. Otto, who is in his 14th season with the Cleveland franchise, is the Force all-time leader in saves (5,981) wins (222) and minutes played (21,506). Orf finished the 2001-02 season with a record of 8-13 while posting 325 saves.
Otto, who began field training in December as part of his rehabilitation, returned to full goalkeeping practice over the past several weeks. Upon Orf's return, Goalkeeper Denny Ciornei was placed on waivers for the termination of his contract however he will resume playing for the Cleveland Force Reserve Team.
"The return of Otto is a welcome addition to the roster, giving us the ability to rest Goalkeeper Jim Larkin when needed. In addition, Otto brings strong leadership with his return to the team," stated Garofolo.
During his rehabilitation, Orf served as the backup color commentator during Force television broadcasts and was honored this season with an Otto Orf Bobblehead Night sponsored by University Hospitals of Cleveland on January 10, 2003.
