Ottawa SkyHawks Defeat Saint John Mill Rats 112-95

The Ottawa SkyHawks returned to the Canadian Tire Centre tonight to take on the Atlantic Conference's best team, the Saint John Mill Rats. The SkyHawks were looking to turn things around after going 0-2 on their two game road trip out east. This was the second meeting between the SkyHawks and Mill Rats with Saint John's winning the first game 116-109. Tonight also marked the return of, Jamal Crook, who returned from injury.

 

The SkyHawks came out a bit slow but picked up the pace with some big three's from Crouch, Vanderbeken, and Tubbs. After the first quarter, the SkyHawks were up 22-19.

The second quarter is when the SkyHawks took over the game, going on a 20-9 run. The team was led by Fred Sturdivant who led the team with 17 points in the first half.

The second half started off slower for the Skyhawks with St John's going on a 9-2 run to open the third quarter. The Skyhawks then regained their momentum with a huge slam by Tirrell Baines.

The SkyHawks went into the fourth quarter up 83-58. St John's came out strong but their late surge was not enough, as the SkyHawks held on to the lead and won 112-95. 

 

Fred Sturdivant said "We got to keep playing together and moving the ball around and playing together on defense" when asked how the team can get off to a quick start in their next game. With Jamal Crook's return, Coach Jackson said "His return reminded the team how much of an impact he has."

Next up for the SkyHawks is the Windsor Express on Tuesday February 11th. This game will be the SkyHawks first annual school day where Ottawa area students will fill the Canadian Tire Center and cheer on the team.
