
Ottawa SkyHawks Defeat Mississauga Power First Time In December

OTTAWA, ON: For the second time this month, the Ottawa SkyHawks visited the Mississauga power. What was different about tonight's game from Ottawa's last couple of games is one Justin Tubbs. Back on the court after missing two games, Justin put up 15 points and 4 rebounds. Add to that, Ottawa native Eric Kibi started again tonight and brought his energy to the GTA all the way from Orleans, with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and a whole lot of winning attitude on the court. The result - Ottawa gets a victory of 100-89.
The SkyHawks had a consistent and equal first quarter matching the Power defensively and closing at modest 18-21 during the end of the first. Halfway into the second and the SkyHawks trailed a consistent 6 points with a score of 28-34. As the first half neared its end, Ottawa snapped the Power's lead all the way down to a two point lead leaving the scoreboard at 35-37.Ãâà45 second left in the first half and the SkyHawks' Eric Kibi tied the game up to 42-42 with two free throws. Justin Tubbs and Ryan Anderson led Ottawa with 10 points each going into the second half.
Hot off the first half's momentum, the SkyHawks came swinging with a 6 point lead from the beginning of the second half and continued strong all the way to half quarter and past, only increasing the gap up to 7 points.ÃâàWith the third coming to an end, Ottawa shook Mississauga off their tail and ran off with the lead making it an 11-point game and leaving the score at 72-61. Jermaine Johnson charged the SkyHawks going into the final quarter with 14 points while Eric Kibi pushed the defensive end with 6 rebounds by the third quarter.
Halfway through the fourth, Ottawa struggled to keep the lead as the Power chopped away at their lead almost tying them. As usual, the SkyHawks brought excitement at the Hershey Center in the final moments of the game as they ran off with the 9 point lead forever sealing the Power's fate and concluding the game at 100-89.
"Rebounding was the key to victory against the Power. We showed heart and didn't give up on any loose balls." Said Technical Director Merrick Palmer, "We had great defensive rotations late in the shot clock combined with solid post plays on office. Great team effort, we look forward to Brampton tomorrow afternoon at home"
