Ottawa Skyhawks can't hold off Windsor

February 11, 2014 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Ottawa SkyHawks News Release

A field trip day for students in the Ottawa / Gatineau region was kicked off by a speech from Owner and Author Gus Takkale, local player Eric Kibi, and team co-captain Ryan Anderson. It was more than just basketball for the 37 schools attending as the pre-game "Reach for the Sky" presentation outlined to take responsibility for their results, aim high, believe, PHP (Purpose, Hunger and Passion), and eliminating excuses. That's the elements to make things happen in school and life.

In front of the largest and loudest crowd of the season at close to 3600 screaming fans, the SkyHawks tipped off against the Windsor Express for the 6th time this season and still looking for the first win against the number one team in the league.

Ottawa came off with all cylinders firing and kept a tight grip on the score leading by 9 points mid-way into the first and trailing by just 1 point at the end of first quarter, 24-25.

Windsor retaliated with back to back to back baskets and upped their lead by 8 points going into the half.

Justin Tubbs brought the fans to their feet with a reverse slam dunk mid-way through the 3rd quarter. Swarmed after the game by cameras and sharpies for his autograph, Tubbs thanked his fans and said "it's all in a day's work, part of the game".

Coach Jackson said "with this amazing atmosphere, I don't even think the kids noticed the score board, which is great" he went on to say "but we still have to do some work".

Windsor finished the SkyHawks off with a final score of 113-103.

Coach Jackson had to admit "We have to move on from this, with another big game tomorrow, but I'm proud of how the boys played and Tirrell had some good D, leading with rebounds. Although we wanted to give the schools a win today, looks like they had a great time and tomorrow's another day, we'll bring them the "˜W' then".
