Ottawa Selects Forward with First Pick

The Ottawa 67's used their first pick in the 2004 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection (10th overall) this morning to select 6' 1" 190-pound right-winger Matt Lahey from Oshawa. This marks only the third time in the last ten years that Ottawa has selected a forward with their first pick in the draft. The other two forwards were Lane Moodie (2001) and Mark Bell (1996).

Lahey scored 35 goals and 19 assists for 54 points in 43 games for the Oshawa Jr. Generals in 2003-04 and had 110 penalty minutes.

"The Ottawa 67's are extremely pleased as we knew we had to go into this draft and select some forwards," said Ottawa 67's Head Coach and General Manager, Brian Kilrea. "We were very happy and surprised to be able to select to players that we had rated so highly in Lahey and (Aaron) Alphonso. This will give us more depth up front and these two players will make us proud down the road."

Aaron Alphonso, RW, 6' 0", 180 lbs., selected in the 2nd Round from Orangeville, ON., played for the Georgetown Raidres of the OHA and had 21 points in 46 games.

James McGinn, LW, 6' 0", 166 lbs., selected in the 3rd Round from Fergus, ON., played for the Jr. Canadiens of the GTHL and had 48 points in 31 games.

Shea Kewin, RC, 5' 11", 165 lbs., selected in the 4th Round from Guelph, ON., played for Guelph of the OMHA and had 80 points in 65 games. (40 goals)

Thomas Kiriakou, RC, 6' 0", 197 lbs., selected in the 5th Round from Richmond Hill, ON., played for the Richmond Hill Stars of the OMHA and had 69 points in 61 games. (35 goals)

Ryan Graham, LC, selected in the 5th Round from the St. John's Junior Hockey League, (St. John's Maple Leafs AAA), had 42 points in 25 games. (top goal scorer)

Matt Price, LC, 5'1 0", 170 lbs., selected in the 6th Round from Milton, ON., played for the Oakville Rangers of the OMHA and had 84 points in 57 games. (46 goals)

Scott Pitt, LC, 6' 0", 165 lbs., selected in the 7th Round from Ottawa, ON., played for the Gloucester Rangers of the ODMHA and had 83 points in 45 games. (36 goals)

Garrett Noiles, RW, 6' 3", 175 lbs., selected in the 8th Round from Carlisle, ON., played for the Halton Hurricanes of the OMHA and had 29 points in 32 games.

Sean Ryan, D, 5' 11", 170 lbs., selected in the 9th Round from London, ON., played for the Waterloo Minor Midget team of the Alliance League and had 30 points in 51 games.

Marcus Menard, G, 6' 1", 165 lbs., selected in the 11th Round from Fonthill, ON., played for the Welland Tigers of the SCTA and had five shutouts in 20 games.

Eddie Wiederer, RW, 6' 0", 180 lbs., selected in the 12th Round from Schomberg, ON., played for the Richmond Hill Stars and had 58 points in 74 games.

Trevor McKinney, LW, 5' 11", 175 lbs., selected in the 12th Round from Whitby, ON., played for Whitby of the Eastern Ontario AAA and had 64 points in 54 games. (31 goals)

Brandon Edge, LW, 5' 11", 168 lbs., selected in the 14th Round from Nepean, ON., played for the Nepean Raiders of the ODMHL and had 50 points in 51 games.

Ryan Everett, G, 6' 1", 187 lbs., selected in the 15th Round from Brampton, ON., played for the Toronto Malboros team of the GTHL and had six shutouts in 19 games.
