Oshawa Power Partners with GeekSpeak Intelligent Marketing Communications

Durham's Team the Oshawa Power, an NBL Canada basketball franchise, has selected Whitby-based agency, GeekSpeak as the team's official marketing partner. GeekSpeak becomes a minority stakeholder in the franchise and joins a group of select team Sponsors including Rogers, Porter Airlines and Boston Pizza. In its inaugural season the Power has grown a loyal fan base while hunting for a spot in the league's first ever playoffs. Off the court, the Power is also surging ahead with preparations for the off season and a full schedule of 2012/13 games.

"We're excited to see GeekSpeak's creative capabilities brought in to benefit this organization", says Gary Durrant, President of Basketball Operations for the Power. "They've worked with some great companies over the years and we're happy to have them involved with our future."

"Oshawa Power players know how to generate excitement on the court," adds GeekSpeak founder Isaac Wanzama. "We know how to energize a compelling brand. That makes for an ideal mix as we work together to grow this new sports organization". GeekSpeak will help propel the Power brand, developing sponsorship programs and growing the recognition of the team and the NBL Canada in the Durham Region and GTA. "Watching the Power command the court is thrilling," says Wanzama. "The Geekspeak team is just as passionate about driving awareness of the Power and Canada's new basketball league."

The first task is to make sure sports fans know that high calibre professional basketball is thriving in Durham. The Power is off to a great start with lively crowds packing Oshawa's General Motors Centre for a recent Rogers Slam Dunk Fan Night and to see the Power Go Pink for the NBL's Cure on the Court day to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The Power has been extremely involved in the community ever since its inception; it is truly a testament to the organization's commitment to the Durham Region.

"Our goal is to help build the Power brand and grow awareness around this fantastic entertainment product, we're lucky to have one of only seven NBL teams (so far) in the Durham region. When you've got committed and passionate people on your team, it's always a win", says Wanzama.
