THE STARZ AND THE FURY-OUS, WITH NO VAN DIESEL AROUND: The improving Orlando Starz seek their first victory of the season Saturday against the undefeated Miami Fury at Dr. Phillips HS. Miami won the first meeting 30-6 and claimed a 26-21 thrilla over the previous unbeaten Atlanta Xplosion last week. Orlando tasted its first lead of the season, but fell 20-14 to the Tampa Bay Terminators. This will be first of two consecutive meetings between the two teams here in Orlando ... wait a minute, we don't get to back to South Beach? First PR doesn't get to go to Lettermen and now this........... RECAPPING TAMPA BAY: C THE GOOD: Improvement is being made and is noticeable ...There is a pulse to the Starz' running game, which had positive yardage for the first time in three games ... Sky Deer was not sacked and didn't throw a pick ... Christine Shaw, Lois Thompson-Daly and Gina Solano have emerged as go-to receivers; Shaw could take over a game if Sky Deer gets her the ball more ... the defense came up with three stops inside the Tampa Bay 30 ... Jana Vander Loop played well on defense ...THE BAD: Teams can run on us. Sky Deer completed just 30 percent of her passes ... Arm-tackling allowed Tampa Bay runners to get extra yards ... THE UGLY: Officiating? Ugh? We knew this crew blew calls that even went for us.
MEET COACH MIKE: The Starz' new Head Coach is Mike Vessio. He's a native of the Bronx, New York, and was a standout performer at Mahopac High School, where he earned all Conference and All District awards. He is employed at Tees and Cues in Maitland as the General Manager. Vessio is assisted by Martino Rosanova, a native of Detroit and a massage therapist.
