ORLANDO – The Orlando Starz rudely welcomed the Carolina Spartans into the Independent Women's Football League Saturday with a 72-0 dismantling in the 2004 season opener at Dr. Phillips High School.

Ivette "Doc" Guttman threw for 176 yards and four touchdowns; Tango McCall scored four touchdowns and Diane Hodges scored three times as Orlando (1-0) set a team record for single-game scoring. The 72 points were 16 more than the 2003 team registered in its entire season.

McCall finished with 145 yards rushing and 97 receiving on five catches. Hodges ran for 133 and caught three passes for 62.

Also scoring for Orlando were Jennifer Baehne, Andrea Anderson and Christine Shaw, who registered three two-point conversions. Kicker Julie Padgett converted six of her attempts.

Playing its first game, Carolina (0-1) managed just three first downs and never got inside the Orlando 40-yard line.
