ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Pride (3-0-1, 10 points) hit the road to take on the Washington Spirit (2-1-1, 7 points) on Sunday, June 6 at Audi Field, with the two teams entering the weekend at No. 1 and No. 2 overall, respectively. Kickoff for the match is slated for 2 p.m. ET with the fixture available to stream on Paramount+ and international viewers able to tune in on Twitch, along with a live radio broadcast on the newly-announced iHeart NWSL Radio channel.
"[Washington are] a great team with good, forward-thinking organization. It will be a very difficult game and we're going to their home opener so it will be a real tough one. We expect it to be tough but we also expect to have the opportunity to go and continue [being] who we are, continue to develop what we've been doing, and continue to progress and challenge ourselves against a very good opponent in their backyard," Pride Head Coach Marc Skinner said ahead of the match. "We've been away, we've had difficult games and now we need to go and have another one. I don't think there's any easy games in this league so we've just got to do what we do, continue to progress and try to work hard at it."
The match will serve as the third between the Pride and Spirit in the calendar year and the second of the regular season. The two sides opened their respective NWSL campaigns against one another on May 16 at Exploria Stadium, playing to a 1-1 draw, following a matchup in the Challenge Cup on April 21 that saw the Pride come away with a 1-0 victory.
The Pride are currently riding a four-game unbeaten run to start the year, with three consecutive wins under their belt, the most recent being a 1-0 victory over Kansas City on Sunday. Alex Morgan scored the eventual game-winner in the 16th minute, her fourth goal in as many matches for the Pride.
Morgan sits atop the league with four goals scored this season, while teammate Taylor Kornieck sits tied for the league-lead in assists with three other players. Sydney Leroux trails Morgan in finishes this season, with two to her credit to tie for second in NWSL.
Washington enters the weekend after taking two victories from a two-game road trip this past week, defeating the Dash 2-1 at BBVA Stadium at the midweek before taking a 1-0 victory over OL Reign on Sunday at Cheney Stadium. A Megan Rapinoe own goal served as the deciding goal in that match, coming in the 52nd minute of play.
Ashley Hatch leads the Spirit with two goals this season, followed by Ashley Sanchez with one. Three different members of the side have been responsible for the three assists for Washington this season in Tori Huster, Natalie Jacobs and Trinity Rodman.
Following Sunday's match, the Pride will take a week off from match play before returning to Exploria Stadium to host NJ/NY Gotham FC on Sunday, June 20. The contest will serve as the Mission Rainbow match as part of the Club's recently announced Mission Program, with tickets available at Orlando-Pride.com or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
