Orlando Predators News Release
ORLANDO - On Monday the Orlando Predators took a huge step towards preparing for the upcoming season as the team added quarterback Trevor Harris (6-2, 220, Edinboro) to its roster.
Harris spent his rookie campaign this past year with the ArenaBowl runner-up Arizona Rattlers, where he learned the nuances of the game as a back up to 2011 National Guard MVP Nick Davila.
While in Arizona, Harris went 25 of 37 passing for 272 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions.
"The experience he got in Arizona is very valuable," Preds coach Bret Munsey said. "He did an outstanding job from what we've seen on film. He's got a great arm and nice touch on his passes and he's willing to stay in the pocket to make some things happen."
As a rookie Harris saw time under center during six games and posted a 128.6 passer rating while completing 68 percent of his passes. His best outing of the season came in Week 3 during a 69-20 win over the Tulsa Talons as he threw for 104 yards and three touchdowns.
Munsey said Harris will be given the opportunity to step in and lead the team as its starting quarterback entering training camp.
"I strongly believe he's the next up-and-coming star in the Arena Football League," Munsey said. "Both on and off the field he's everything we want in our organization. He's got great character and great leadership skills, which is so important for a quarterback."
Harris signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars out of college following the 2010 NFL Draft and also spent time with the Buffalo Bills. Following Arizona's 16-2 regular season he went on to play for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League, where former UCF coach Mike Kruczek served as his offensive coordinator.
"I learned a lot about the arena game this past season from Nick and Coach (Kevin) Guy and gained a lot of experience along the way," Harris said. "I'm excited to work with Coach Munsey this season in Orlando. I've heard great things about him and all the fans down there."
Before officially joining the Preds in Orlando, Harris will continue to assist his former college football team, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, throughout the remainder of the season. Harris finished his college career by completing 66 percent of his passes for 11,899 yards and 100 touchdowns.
