Orlando City to Play Tampa Bay Rowdies at Seminole Soccer Complex
May 20, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orlando City SC News Release
Orlando, Fla.- Orlando City SC announced today that the club will play its third round Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Seminole Soccer Complex. The match is set to take place on Wednesday, May 28, and kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
Tickets for the third round game are $15 and will only be available for purchase at the entrance of Seminole Soccer Complex on the day of the match. Due to Orlando City Youth Soccer (OCYS) tryouts occurring simultaneously, parking for the Open Cup match will be unavailable at Seminole Soccer Complex.
However, beginning at 6 p.m. on match-day, OCSC will provide free satellite parking nearby at Heathrow Elementary School, with shuttles available to transport fans to Seminole Soccer Complex.
The match against the Rowdies marks the fifth meeting between the Lions and the North American Soccer League (NASL) club, despite playing in separate leagues. Due to an intense rivalry between both sides' respective supporter clubs, Orlando City and Tampa agreed to an I-4 Derby friendly series in 2013, featuring a home and away match.
Through the three I-4 Derby games played so far, Orlando has gotten the better of Tampa by securing wins in each match. However, the Open Cup game will see an increased sense of urgency from the two clubs, as the oldest soccer tournament in the United States offers only one-leg, resulting in a win or go home mentality.
Orlando has already secured a victory in this year's Open Cup, defeating PDL side Ocala Stampede 4-1 last week. Meanwhile, the third round game is Tampa's first match of the tournament, due to NASL teams entering later in the Open Cup.
The winner of the match between Tampa and Orlando will move on to the fourth round for a match-up against Major League Soccer (MLS) side Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
