Harrisburg's Langley Named Player of the Week
May 20, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - USL PRO named its Team of the Week for Week 9 of the 2014 season on Tuesday as Harrisburg City Islanders forward Morgan Langley was named Player of the Week after his pair of goals led his side to its first home victory of the season on Saturday afternoon.
Harrisburg entered Saturday's game with the Dayton Dutch Lions without a win, or even a goal, at Skyline Sports Complex this season. Langley and fellow Team of the Week selection Clesio Bauque ended both of those runs with two goals apiece, with Langley scoring the game-winner in the 83rd minute before rounding out the 5-3 victory in stoppage time with a goal from his own half.
Langley and Bauque were joined on the Team of the Week's forward line by the Wilmington Hammerheads' Jordan Hamilton, who scored his first professional goal to lift his side to a 1-0 win against the Charleston Battery. Hammerheads defender Yahaya Musa also earned selection after a strong performance at full back.
The Richmond Kickers and Rochester Rhinos also earned a pair of selections to the team of the week, with Richmond's George Davis IV again selected after a standout performance in his side's 4-1 win against OKC Energy FC. Alex Lee was also selected after his finish late added to a solid defensive display.
For the Rhinos, defender Tony Walls was selected after he and his teammates limited the Pittsburgh Riverhounds' attack at Highmark Stadium, while Alex Dixon's goal proved the difference in a 1-0 win that extended Rochester's undefeated streak to seven games.
Rounding out the side are Sacramento Republic FC's Rodrigo Lopez, who scored the game-winning goal in his side's 2-1 victory against the LA Galaxy II at a sold-out Hughes Stadium, and Los Dos defender Bradley Diallo, who performed well throughout the contest. Orlando City goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo also earned selection as his five-save shutout allowed the Lions to continue their undefeated start to the season with a 1-0 win against Arizona United.
The USL PRO season continues on Wednesday night with a rematch of the 2013 USL PRO Championship Game as the Charlotte Eagles visit Orlando City at ESPN Wide World of Sports. This weekend sees another playoff rematch as the Eagles remain on the road to visit Richmond on Saturday night while Sacramento and Pittsburgh both hit the road, with Republic FC set to face Rochester and Dayton, and the Riverhounds visiting the Carolinas to face Wilmington and Charleston.
The week's action concludes on Sunday in Los Angeles as OKC Energy FC visits the Galaxy II at the StubHub Center to cap a big day of soccer at the stadium, with the W-League's LA Blues set to host the Seattle Sounders Women to open the day before the Galaxy face the Philadelphia Union in an MLS regular-season clash as the centerpiece to the day's games.
