Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO - Orlando City Soccer Club is proud to announce the signing of Jamaican international center back Demar Stewart to a two-year contract.
"We are delighted to have a player of Demar's quality joining us," said Phil Rawlins, Owner and President of Orlando City. "Demar has played ten times for Jamaica and has a wealth of experience in his position. We look forward to him forming a strong partnership with his Jamaican colleague and fellow Center Back, Kieron Bernard."
Stewart is a veteran of the Jamaican national team as well as Jamaica's Digicel Premier League. He has been capped 10 times for the Reggae Boyz. In his time with Portmore United, he won the 2004-2005 Digicel Premier League title. In 2007, Stewart was signed by England's Sheffield United, but was loaned out to Belgian side White Star Woluwé FC. In 2008, he became the first Jamaican to play in the Chinese Super League, China's top league, when he was loaned to Chengdu Blades for the 2008-2009 season.
Stewart saw his first action with Orlando City during Saturday's 1-0 win over Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union. He started and played all 90 minutes, anchoring the defense with fellow Jamaican Kieron Bernard.
