Orangeville A's Fight Back from Double-Digit Def

December 26, 2016 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) - Orangeville A's News Release

KITCHENER, ON - Orangeville A's fight back from double-digit deficit to spoil KW Titans' inaugural game; 110-105

In what would be the KW Titans' inaugural game in the NBL, the Orangeville A's were on a mission to crash the party. Justin Moss was a force all over the floor bringing in a double-double with a game-leading 26 points and 18 rebounds, which proved to be enough to help steal the 110-105 victory on the road.

Despite the A's 29 total turnovers, a late push down the stretch along with some crucial defensive stops gave them the advantage over the opposition. The Titans' Adam Blazek put on an impressive performance from behind the arc (shooting 6/11) along with Orlando Coleman who led his team with 20 points.

In what was a tale of 2 halves, both Orangeville and Kitchener-Waterloo had trouble with ball security from very early in the contest. Unfortunately for the A's the Titans were able to compensate with some remarkable shooting from behind the arc. The A's offense would rely more on inside scoring but their inability to close out on shooters gave the Titans a lot of offensive firepower. Luckily for the A's, the scoreboard did not reflect their troubles as they were able to stay within 3 points.

The 2nd quarter was only more of the same as Titan's guard Adam Blazek continued his 3-point showcase and Justin Moss responded with both strength and finesse to finish his chances inside. At one point, the Titans would hold a strong 14-point lead but by the end of the half the A's would claw back and would only trail 59-53.

The second half however saw roles completely reversed. The A's held the Titans to their lowest quarter point total (24) while also revamping their offense and scoring their highest total (31). Moss would continue to lead the A's and gave them their first lead of the game mid-way through the frame. From that point both teams were within a handful of points from each other and the A's finished the frame with a small 84-83 lead.

Finally coming into a quarter with a lead, the A's would have to keep the Titans at bay until the final buzzer, which proved to be much easier said than done. Teams exchanged leads until the final minutes and Orangeville was down 103-99 with only 2 minutes remaining. Thanks to the heroics of Rick Bodiford, who completed two separate 4-point plays, and the clutch 3 pointer from Jameson Tipping, the A's managed to grab the lead with 45 seconds remaining and held on until the end.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Poor ball security: Orangeville had 29 total turnovers in the contest

Controlled the boards: The A's were +5 in both rebounds & 2nd chance points
