Brevard County Manatees News Release
OK, Manatees fans...we're down to 68 days and a wake up until the 2007 Florida State League baseball season begins. Here's what's on tap for the opening week:
-Tentatively, the plane with the team will arrive from Spring Training on Monday, April 2nd. The 2007 Brevard County Manatees will arrive at Space Coast Stadium and unpack.
-On Tuesday, April 3rd, the Manatees will host the Florida Tech Panthers in an Exhibition Game at Space Coast Stadium. Following the game we will have a short on-field autograph signing session by both teams.
-To be determined is the annual Meet the Manatees Luncheon. This year we're attempting to schedule this annual event for night time to give more fans the opportunity to attend. The past two years we've had noon luncheons at Carrabba's Italian Bar and Grill. More on this as we finalize the plans.
-The Manatees will begin the 2007 season at home on Thursday, April 5th, against the Daytona Cubs. The Cubs will be led by Manager Jody Davis, Hitting Coach Richie Zisk, Pitching Coach Tom Pratt and Athletic Trainer Steve Melendez this season. The last we seen of the Cubs they were attempting to keep the rising flood waters from coming into the visiting clubhouse during a monster thunderstorm last season. And for all you Notre Dame fans...Jeff Samardzija, the Notre Dame standout Wide Receiver, has given up on football and is projected to begin the baseball season as a Pitcher for the Daytona Cubs.
-$1 (12 ounce) drinks on Opening Night with a tentative Booster Club Raffle
-Magnet Schedule Giveaway on Friday, the 6th with a fundraiser by the Brevard Achievement Center
On Saturday, April 7th, the Manatees will head to Daytona Beach to play the Cubs. We will be encouraging all Manatees fans to make the trek north to support the team on the first road game of the year. Season Ticket holders, you will receive free admission, based on availability, at ALL Manatees road games. We know we'll see a bunch of you there! Fans, one of the best perks of Season Tickets is getting in free to all home and road games. The entire Florida State League agrees to honor each team's season ticket holders cards for free admission when that team is playing. With the Cubs an hour away, the Vero Beach Devil Rays 50 minutes away, the St Lucie Mets and hour away, it's almost crazy not to catch road games. It's too easy! There is no other league in pro baseball that grants its Season Ticket holders free road admission! Call (321) 633-9200 x3007 to get your Season Tickets reserved today! Trust me, we're just two months away and the Manatees accept small payments to pay off your tickets. No need to write a big check at one time, we'll work with every fan's budget because there is no other sport that is more affordable in Central Florida than Manatees Baseball.
A big Happy Birthday to Bob Uecker, the voice of the Milwaukee Brewers. A lifetime .200 hitter, not .199 or .201, but .200 on the nose, Bob's been calling the games for the Brew Crew for a long time (since 1971, I think). He's on the Miller Park Walk of Fame outside the stadium and has dedicated over 50 years of his life to the game...Happy Birthday to the guy that's a genuine hero to working class dogs everywhere: Mr Baseball!
The Manatees Interns are at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, FL, today for the annual FSL INtern Boot Camp League President (and retired US Army LTC) Chuck Murphy designed the annual event a few years ago and it's name scares the attendees, but it's actually a great way for the interns to get up to speed on how the league operates. The Jupiter Hammerheads and Palm Beach Cardinals are hosting this year's IBC. Our crop of interns is probably the best I've
For those that didn't crack a clue earlier this month and failed to make a private Treasure Hunt meeting, you missed a very important clue that was provided to those in attendance. We informed those present that they would have the clue for 14 days and then it would be released to everybody. Here is that clue...and now everybody has all the clues.
OVER THE RIVER AN' THRU THE WOODS
YOU DON'T EVER WANT TO GO.
IF YOU WANT TO FIND THE COIN YOU SHOULD
BEHOLDEN TO WHAT YOU KNOW.
SITTING OUT IN THE YARD
MATE, IS A VINTAGE FROM '76
SUMMER MEMORIES OF A FORD
NOW COVERED IN LEAVES AND STICKS.
Many of you are like hound dogs and are picking up the scent. Other are going in circles and are all shook up, not knowing which way to turn, judging by the calls some of you have made. Rob Brown, who found the medallion one night last year, is at the stage where he can't sleep and he's driving his family crazy. Rob, Lori is going to have you see a doctor soon. He said he knows others are getting close and it feels like it's now or never, so expect Rob to be scouring the county this weekend trying to stay one step ahead of the competition. He's a diehard Indianapolis Colts junkie, so you know next weekend he won't be searching for the coin. Another treasure hunter that wishes to remain anonymous says that she's getting out her good luck charm, a medallion given to her years ago as a gift from a friend overseas, and will be re-reading all the clues beginning tomorrow, then will be spending the weekend with a map trying to decipher it all. However you spin it, the search is on and to the finder, a pair of LIFETIME Season Tickets. To everybody else...a big fat nothing wrapped in gold foil with a huge green bow. Like they said in Top Gun: There's no prize for second place, Mother Goose. Everybody now has all the clues. Nobody has an edge at this time...do not delete any email that we've sent out this year because you're going to need every one. There are clues hidden in all email newsletters that we send out, so even if you don't find it, don't delete it because you will refer back to it later!
OK, The stadium's Box Office for spring training tickets is open on Saturdays from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. for those that wish to stop by on the weekend. The Box Office is closed on Sundays. You can stop by to purchase Manatees Season Tickets or get Group Outing Information at the Box Office Windows. Manatees individual game tickets will go on sale at a date to be determined. You'll read it here first!
Have a good weekend, everybody. Get the kids together, print out the clues and watch what happens. They will be your best asset. Ever wonder why kids find more diamonds than adults in diamond mine hunts? They're eyes are closer to the ground. They see everything. Every wonder why kids know where everything in this county is but you don't? Because while you're driving your eyes are on the road while they're taking in everything that you don't get to see. They know when new stores open up, or where the closest McDonald's is located. Think about that one...better get some younger eyes involved in the treasure hunt because I can guarantee you that your kids will recognize some of the clues, or at least come up with a couple ideas that you didn't have ten minutes earlier, maybe just from going to school everyday or to baseball practice. Make it a family project.
But keep your circle of trust small, Mate, lest one of your privateers beat you to said treasure...arr, and doan be lookin' for us to mediate any disputes within yer band of cutthroats. There will be only one winner.
