OOB Holds on for 7-6 Victory over Suns

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (4-3) were able to hold on for a 7-6 victory against the Pittsfield Suns (4-3) on Tuesday night at The Ballpark. Enrique Sosa (Panama City, Panama/University of Miami) got the victory for the Tide tossing six innings, yielding three hits, while striking out five.

The Tide took little time to get on the board, with Brian Doran (Ayr, ONT/University of Maine) driving home Matt Pagano (Cranston, RI/Marsit) in the bottom of the first. OOB added two more in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Graham McIntire (Concord, NH/Marist) and a single by Phil Sciretta (Duxbury, MA/Virginia Tech). The home side tacked on two more in the third, and one in the fifth to take a comfortable 6-0 advantage.

Pittsfield scored their first run of the game in the top of the sixth on a Kyle Singleton (Friendswood, TX/University of Pennsylvania) double that brought in Rob McLam (Terryville, CT/Umass Amherst) from second to bring the game to 6-1.

The Suns took advantage of the defensive miscues by Old Orchard Beach in the top of the eighth, plating in five runs on four hits, two on a home run by Morgan Phillips (Charleston, SC/College of Charleston).

Tyler Pogmore (Lebanon, CT/Roger Williams) came in with two outs in the eighth to get out of the inning, and back in for the ninth to get the save and silence the Suns bats.

Jon Luthe (Searcy, AR/Arkansas State) was charged with the loss for Pittsfield, throwing four innings, giving up six earned runs, and striking out three.

The Raging Tide will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Martha's Vineyard to take on the Sharks for a 5pm first pitch.
