Ontario's Jack Campbell Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week
Published on April 10, 2017 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Ontario Reign goaltender Jack Campbell has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 9, 2017.
Campbell allowed just one goal on 58 shots in his two starts last week, leading the Reign to a home-and-home sweep of their arch rivals and helping them clinch a berth in the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs.
On Friday night, Campbell made 30 saves and recorded his fifth shutout of the season, earning first-star honors in Ontario's 4-0 win at San Diego. The victory, Campbell's 30th of the year, secured the Reign's second postseason trip in as many seasons since joining the AHL, and the 18th trip to the Calder Cup Playoffs by the Los Angeles Kings' top affiliate in the last 19 seasons.
Back home on Saturday, Campbell turned aside 27 of 28 shots as Ontario defeated the Gulls again, 3-1.
Campbell has played a career-high 51 games for Ontario this season and has a record of 31-14-6 with a 2.47 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. He leads the AHL in victories (31) and ranks second in minutes played (3,012), third in saves (1,337) and tied for second in shutouts (five). In 173 career regular-season AHL appearances with Ontario and Texas, the fifth-year pro from Port Huron, Mich., is 87-57-21 with a 2.69 GAA, a .910 save percentage and 14 shutouts. Campbell, a first-round draft choice (11th overall) by Dallas in 2010, has also appeared in two career National Hockey League games, including one with Los Angeles earlier this season.
In recognition of his achievement, Campbell will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Reign home game.
