On The Road To Denver - Machine vs. Outlaws
July 20, 2006 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Chicago Machine News Release
After a difficult first game of the season when the Machine faced the Outlaws in Denver and came out short in a 24-14 loss, the Chicago Machine will have its second opportunity to try and rope in the Outlaws. The Chicago Machine travels to Denver this weekend to play against the Outlaws at 7:30 PM (MT) at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium.
During their last duel, Mike Law and Josh Sims each scored six points for the Outlaws. Denver scored three two-point goals against Machine goalie Nick Murtha who was recently traded to Long Island. Two of the team's two-point goals were scored by Josh Sims.
For the Machine, Chris Malone was top scorer with three goals for the game, one of them a two-point goal. Steve Dusseau, Doug Shanahan, and Kevin Leveille also scored multiple goals apiece, but the Machine was still unable to challenge the Outlaws significantly in their 24-goal tally.
This weekend, both teams will find themselves missing key players who are presently playing at the World Games this week in London, Ontario. Today, Chicago Machine face-off specialist Doug Shanahan and defenseman Todd Rassas are both wearing the red, white, and blue as they play for Team USA against Australia at 4:00 PM (EST). Denver Outlaws goalie, Trevor Tierney, is also playing for Team USA in Ontario. If Team USA defeats Australia today in the semi-final game, they will compete on Saturday, July 22nd for the World Championship.
In a recent, three-team trade, the Chicago Machine acquired an additional player for the roster - Jake Deane from Long Island. This weekend, Jake Deane will play his first Major League Lacrosse game with the Chicago Machine along with Chris Keating who was acquired from the MLL Player Pool.
After this weekend's game, the Chicago Machine comes home for two back-to-back weekends on their home turf at the Sports Complex at Benedictine University. On Saturday, July 29th the Machine will take on the Los Angeles Riptide at 2:00 PM. The Chicago Machine $10 Stick Tix promotion is only available for the game on July 29th.
