Omaha/Council Bluffs to have ABA expansion team
April 22, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA CEO, today announced that the professional basketball league will expand to Omaha/Council Bluffs and will begin plan in November. According to Newman, "We've always felt that O/CB would be a great ABA market; we've received tons of emails and letters from fans for the last three years - and it certainly fits beautifully into our divisional play. And now, we have a great owner with a strong business background and a deep interest in sports. This is good."
The team will be owned by Michael C. Jefferson, the owner of J & J Real Estate Investment and Property Management, Inc and Jefferson Distribution, Inc. Jefferson stated, "I am very excited about the leagues growth over the past years. The River City Ballers (that's the name) will be very active in the community and in the public schools to promote education before sports. There will be a press conference shortly to announce the team, General Manager, Coach, venue, team tryouts, staffing, etc. This organization is proud to be part of the ABA. And We think this will be great for the state of Nebraska, the city of Omaha and the state of Iowa and the city of Council Bluffs."
